First build!

Well, looks like this game is ready! Nice! Well, kinda sorta. I guess... I just need to make the fighter's 3D model, add the attack and such. Ahem. *sweats profusely*

Anyway, this can be considered the 0.0.1 version. I say that because I believe I made a prototype for the alpha, because you can move, attack and that's it.

First, I will admit that I did not even know about the GMTK Game Jam. I only heard about it but because of the jam's name, I thought it was a game jam where the games would only be made in Game Maker: Studio, I only heard that any engine could be used 4 hours after the jam had started. The reason for this is that the GMTK Game Jam is taking place at the same time as the Game Jam+, a game jam where I was taking part of as a mentor/aidee, not as a participant. Over there, a friend of mine told me that using Game Maker wouldn't be required, and once he told me the theme, I decided to make something super simple for the GMTK Game Jam, just for fun and to make something 3D. A few ideas appeared on my mind, such as a game where the player would fight a single dragon (a boss) and that's it. However, I realized that making two 3D models would be too much work. I didn't know about anything else. Then, another friend of mine invited me to play Super Smash Bros. while we waited for the Game Jam+ opening. Then, I instantly had an idea - An arena fighting game with only one character option. That would be a good opportunity to model a character, make some animations and make a cool small game quickly.

Unfortunately, there were a few setbacks. First, because I am recovering from a surgery, I couldn't work for too long, as I have to stay most of the time laid down in a bed/sofa. Second, there was much more work than what I predicted for the other game jam I was working on as staff. There was a moment where I anticipated would only take around an hour and half. However, it too nearly 5 hours to finish. Last but not least, I had some problems with the Unity input system (the old one, not the new), which after some time working on it, I just fixed by, well... You know how in the controls of the game, there are separate buttons for PlayStation 4 controllers and Xbox controllers? Yeah, that is how I fixed it. I'm not very proud of it, but I was running out of time.

Once I have some free time, I want to make the 3D model for the character, make some fighting moves animation and then, give it some final polish and hopefully release the 1.0 version.

Finally, I would like to thank the GMTK channel for hosting this game jam, and I will definitely check out the channel's videos in the future. Being the Metal Gear addict that I am, I am definitely starting with the one about the year where stealth games got serious. That thumbnail certainly clickbaited me in.

That's all, folks! See you later!
